Four young adults, who were all in their 20s, recently died in a fatal car accident. Speeding is likely to have been an issue in the crash, and alcohol may also have played a factor.

The four young people had spent the night celebrating one of the victim's birthday by spending time at local bars. In fact, the group was last seen leaving one particular bar at 3:30 in the morning. The crash happened an hour and a half later.

A little boy was attacked by a dog this week and suffered injuries, including bite marks to his face. Apparently this is not the first time this dog has attacked someone. In fact, it is the fourth documented bite from this dog. A police detective assigned to the case believes that the owner of the dog knew that the dog was aggressive and that anyone who came in contact with the dog was placed in danger of a dog attack.

The dog's teeth bit through the young child's ear and under his eye. He also had a bite on his leg. Thankfully, the boy's mother jumped in to his rescue so that life-threatening injuries to the boy were avoided. He was rushed to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Drinking and driving is illegal not only when an intoxicated person gets behind the wheel of a car, but also any other type of motor vehicle. The combination of drinking and driving a motor vehicle can have catastrophic consequences, especially when speeding is also involved.

In 2009, a 19-year-old Maryland college student was killed when an ATV on which he was a passenger flipped over. The driver of the ATV was drunk.

After the drunk driving accident, the young man's father brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the drunk driver, another college student, along with the driver's family who allegedly served the teens alcohol before the fatal accident.

It happens every day. Someone reaches over to change the radio station, takes his or her eye off of the road for a split second, and the next thing you know, you have been struck by this careless driver. Car accidents can be extremely frightening and life-altering. Because cars are powerful machines, even a simple crash could result in dire physical and emotional consequences. As a victim of a car accident, you may face injuries that could severely affect your life or the life of a loved one. Unfortunately, car crashes are all too common.

A recent article discusses a Louisiana case in which a volunteer fire chief allegedly injured another motorist. This incident dates back to 2010; however, the lawsuit has been recently initiated by injured members of the crash. The piece notes that the fire chief rear-ended the victim's boat trailer, which was hauled by a pickup truck. According to reports, the collision caused another car to spin from the southbound lane to the northbound lane.

Male users of the prescription medication methadone may be more than twice as likely as non-users to be involved in a motor vehicle accident, according to a new study published by researchers in Norway.

Baton Rouge car accident attorneys note that the study could be a jumping point for further inquiries into the safety of the medication. Methadone is a medicated treatment approach to curbing drug addiction. Although researchers highlighted the possible effects of methadone, they also insisted that more research was needed to confirm or dispute these preliminary findings, which used a data set that did not provide an ideal amount of information on each methadone user.

Pedestrians are at a serious disadvantage when it comes to being involved in car accidents. When a pedestrian is struck by a car, the most likely result is serious, if not fatal injuries. As a result, Louisiana motorists should keep their eyes on the road and their minds on their driving -- or risk causing a tragic pedestrian accident.

Pedestrians are particularly at risk of being hit by cars whenever they cross a roadway. Far too often, distracted driving, intoxication or simple negligence are the reasons motor vehicles crash into pedestrians.

There can be many reasons that a driver is distracted, but chief among the common distractions is cell phone use while driving.

A family that lost four members when a jet owned and operated by the U.S. Marine Corps crashed into the family home was awarded a $17.8 million compensation package last week, according to new reports.

Baton Rouge wrongful death attorneys noted from news reports that the family had been seeking compensation of $56 million. The crash, which occurred outside of Louisiana, killed a mother, her two young daughters -- ages two and 15 months -- and a mother-in-law when it struck the home and engulfed it in flames.

In 2008, poisoning-related deaths for the first time exceeded car crashes as the most common cause of accidental and wrongful deaths in the United States, knocking car accident deaths out of the top spot for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Baton Rouge wrongful death attorneys note from the studies that the large majority of poisoning-related deaths -- more than 90 percent -- were caused by prescription or illicit drugs. Of those, 40 percent were caused by opioid painkilling medications like Vicodin or Percocet.

2010 saw drop in total number of fatal car accidents

The loss of a loved one in a car crash is devastating to any family. What makes this type of tragedy even worse for many families is when the crash was caused by someone else's negligence. Because of another party's actions or inactions, an avoidable collision robs a family of their loved one. Seeking compensation for the loss feels terribly inadequate, because no amount of money can replace a lost family member.

However, it is important to recover the compensation that is available so that the family does not suffer the double burden of the loss of a loved one and the monetary losses associated with a person's deaths. Even more important, Baton Rouge wrongful death attorneys know that families can gain some sense of closure when the people who caused a fatal car accident are held responsible for their actions.
